چکیده
Abstract With the aim of maintaining or obtaining good environmental status in Northeast Atlantic and northern Mediterranean Sea, European Marine Strategy Framework Directive (EU-MSFD) came into force 2008. All EU Member States (MS) have task assessing current state their adjacent waters to guarantee sustainable use marine resources healthy ecosystems for future generations. Although MSFD has been implemented over a decade, there are still gaps assessment various ecologically commercially important species, such as cephalopods. Here we describe cephalopods, key component valuable fishing resource, within MSFD. To do so, review how MS deal with this group reporting identify explain cephalopod assessment. We main challenges including limited data rarity dedicated surveys on However, argue that cephalopods can be partially integrated EU-MSFD assessment, illustrating opportunities possibilities integration MSFD, mainly using Descriptors 1–4. متن کاملImplementation of the Water Framework Directive in European marine waters.
In Europe, management and protection of the environment have historically been the responsibility of local or national agencies. This began to change with the long list of water-related European directives, which have set increasingly coordinated European targets for potable, waste and bathing waters. The Water Framework Directive (WFD) is the most significant of these as it draws together the ...
متن کاملThe use of benthic indicators in Europe: from the Water Framework Directive to the Marine Strategy Framework Directive.
The Water Framework Directive (WFD) and the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) are the European umbrella regulations for water systems. It is a challenge for the scientific community to translate the principles of these directives into realistic and accurate approaches. The aim of this paper, conducted by the Benthos Ecology Working Group of ICES, is to describe how the principles have ...

The EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive 2008/56/EC (MSFD) defines a framework for Community actions in the field of marine environmental policy in order to achieve and/or maintain the Good Environmental Status (GES) of the European seas by 2020. Microbial assemblages (from viruses to microbial-sized metazoa) provide a major contribution to global biodiversity and play a crucial role in the f...
متن کاملNanomaterials and the European Water Framework Directive
Besides the European Union (EU) Regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of CHemicals (REACH), the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) is probably the single most important piece of environmental legislation in Europe when it comes to dealing with nanomaterials in the future given their widespread and dispersive use. Despite of the importance of the WFD, the WFD has ...
